Recap: Christoval girls dominate at Region 1 Cross Country Meet in Lubbock
Miles, Eldorado, Lake View and Central also had strong showings at Mae Simmons Park
The Concho Valley was represented well by cross country teams from Christoval, Miles, Eldorado, Lake View, and Central. Here's how they finished, starting with the Christoval Lady Cougars running away from the field in Region 1-2A (literally).
Region 1-2A
Led by three super sophomores, the Christoval Lady Cougars cross country team finished 45 points ahead of second-place Gruver with a final team score of 85. Presley Polk finished in 11th place at 13:17. Her teammate, Kenadee Millican, finished right behind her at 12th place with a time of 13:18. Madyson George joined her fellow sophomores six seconds later running a 13:24 to finish in 13th place. Junior Savannah Wood and first-year Khloe Bolander rounded out the team with times of 13:43 and 13:53, respectively.
Senior Jessica Garcia of Eldorado finished 4th overall in the 1-2A race running a 12:53 for two miles.
In the boys race, Miles senior Jaxson Garcia was the top finisher from the Concho Valley, running an 18:20 5K.
The Christoval Cougars finished in fifth place, with junior Ben McCann placing 19th overall with an 18:49 5K.
Region 1-4A
The Lake View Maidens finished strong in 21st place in a strong field of teams. The Maidens were led by sophomore Jaylen Cuellar who finished 84th with a time of 14:28. Senior Maria Lupita Segura ran a 15:20, with sophomore Rickquael Bohannon running a 15:35 to finish in the third spot for the Maidens. Juniors Alyssa Delacruz and Yelena Sanchez rounded up the Maidens team score with times of 15:39 and 16:02.
The Lake View Chiefs did not field a team but did have strong showings from junior Sterling Grey and senior Justin Vasquez. Grey finished with a time of 18:31 and Vasquez clocked in at 19:16.
Region 1-6A
The Central Lady Cats cross country team was led by senior Emma George who finished the 5K at 20:00 to place 50th. Sophomores Naomi Bageant and Hanna Zwiebel finished in the second and third spots for the Lady Cats with a 21:37 and 21:43, respectively. Freshman Harper Hansen finished with a time of 21:45, and junior Hannah Bageant rounded out Central’s top five with a 22:01.
The Bobcats were represented by seniors Angel Rodriguez and Christopher Banks. Rodriguez finished his 5K with a time of 16:45, while Banks clocked in his with a time of 17:20.
State Meet
The UIL state cross country meet will be held on November 4-5 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The top four teams and the top ten finishers not in those four teams qualify for the state meet.
