Good morning, reader. I’m coming to you live from my estate here in San Angelo close to the street in which Fess Parker was born and raised. We are trying something new this week: a themed post for each day. Obviously, today is Sunday, and with my love of alliteration, today’s post is a Sunday Spotlight. Today, we are a going to spotlight a good ole boy from Brontë, Texas who’s made it big in the big city of San Angelo:
Garrett Acker
Garrett Acker - Compliance Officer at the Bank & Trust, Father of two, long-suffering Texas Tech Fan, and still mad about a ball being thrown in a van in which he ended up getting the punishment.
Acker was recently named the chair of the 2022 United Way of Concho Valley. According to an excellent report by former Rampage reporter and current writer for Concho Valley Homepage, Early’s Ashtin Wade, Acker has been a banquero (not a vaquero) for fourteen years and has his degree from Angelo State. He has been involved with the United Way board for six years now. Congrats to Mr. Acker.
A certain source whose name I will protect as she is still in elementary school said about this achievement: “Did you know Daddy made it on the internet? I know, because I saw.” I guess she’s a knower.
Various tidbits from the Saturday slate
Congrats to the Cornerstone Christian School Volleyball team. After not practicing for a week because of a retreat (only a week into school?), the Lady Lions placed first in the silver bracket at the Bronte Volleyball Tournament.
Thanks to Amy Harrison for the pic!
The North Texas State Mean Green defeated the Texas Western Miners at the historic Sun Bowl. QB Austin Aune led the the eagles to a 31-13 win over Dana Dimel’s team. Please follow Brett Vito’s coverage of the game as it started too late for me….
Angelo State Soccer won its first game against Colorado Christian, 3-0. CCU living up to their name proved to be great hosts to the Belles making them feel at home with giving them a 3 - 0 win.
Congrats to minister Keenan Clark and his wife on the announcement of their pregnancy. If you would’ve told me that he would be a dad ten years ago, well, then, I would say that sounds about right, but I would still be shocked.
“Have a great Sunday or don’t, the choice is yours” - that principal named after a liquid who is at the school by the river.
Song of the day:
Finally, Nebraska played Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday. Apparently, they gave fans free beer which is probably the only way that would have gotten me to watch the game. San Antonio Express-News’ Mike Finger had this funny quip on twitter about the coach who’s in his fifth year at the helm of his alma mater.
