Netflix’s “The Crown” Returns Nov. 9th
Fifth season comes in wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death and ascension of her son, King Charles III, to the Crown
The Crown, Netflix’s hit series on the British monarchy produced by Peter Morgan, returns to the streaming site on Wednesday, November 9th.
It returns in the wake of the first change at the top of the British monarchy in over seventy years after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on September 8, 2022.

Her son, King Charles III, ascended to the throne after two weeks of mourning in the United Kingdom.
While he may wear the Crown now, season five of Peter Morgan’s series will focus on his and his late wife’s crumbling marriage, the death of the People’s Princess (Diana), and “the annus horribilis,” the name Queen Elizabeth gave to the year 1992.

In 1992, Princess Royal, Anne, divorced her husband, Captain Mark Phillips. Prince Andrew and his wife, Sarah Ferguson, also divorced.
At the same time, Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s crumbling marriage was put on center stage after Andrew Morton’s tell-all book about Princess Di was published that summer.
Lastly, Windsor Castle suffered extensive damage from a fire that was the icing on the cake for the aforementioned “Annus Horribilis” that was 1992.
Season five will also introduce new actors to the series, with Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Additionally, Elizabeth Debicki will portray Princess Diana while Dominic West will portray Charles, Prince of Wales.
