U.K. Prime Minister Truss Announces Resignation
Truss became PM on September 6th and will be shortest serving PM in modern history
Liz Truss, the embattled Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, announced her resignation on Thursday just 24 hours after telling parliament she was not a quitter.
She’s been on the job for six weeks which were full political and economic crises.
Truss said, “I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.”
Since the Brexit Intervention in 2016, the UK has gone through five prime ministers.
Whoever succeeds Truss will be the first prime minister will be the first to be formally appointed by King Charles III. Truss was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II only days before her passing.
Truss said that there would be an election within a week to see who will replace her in the conservative party and at 10 Downing Street.
